Let’s get to it.

What is Attentive?

Attentive is an SMS and email marketing platform that uses real-time data to send personalized messages to customers throughout their customer journey. If you’re in the retail/e-commerce, travel/hospitality, food/beverage, entertainment, or media industry, you will be in good company with other businesses leveraging Attentive for their business marketing.

What is Klaviyo?

Klaviyo brands itself as the only CRM platform for B2C brands. It allows businesses to reach its customers through multiple channels like SMS, email, and push notifications and with its powerful AI and analytics, delivers personalized experiences to customers across channels.

What is Mobile Text Alerts?

Mobile Text Alerts is an SMS marketing solution that enables businesses to drive growth through text. With its two-way communication, businesses don’t just send text but can have back-and-forth communication with customers, strengthening customer relationships and increasing business revenue.

Attentive vs Klaviyo vs Mobile Text Alerts: Which is Suitable for Your Business Marketing?

Attentive, Klaviyo, and Mobile Text Alerts have their strengths and limitations, and so choosing a marketing communications platform should be based on your needs. Here, I’ll compare the products’ features to guide your decision.

1. AI and Messaging

Attentive

Attentive enables businesses to interact with customers across SMS and email. Businesses can eliminate the stress of signing up on both channels differently by smartly collecting email and SMS sign-ups simultaneously with On-brand’s 2-in-1 sign up and Attentive’s two-tap technology.

Attentive’s email channel is effective and allows customers to identify about 1 billion emails and phone numbers of onsite visitors for an effective trigger send email. However, it is more built to suit SMS marketing.

Its SMS marketing is dynamic, allowing friendly interactions through the use of video, audio, image, and GIFs. You can generate and schedule messages and run A/B tests to know what works best.

Attentive’s AI features generate retargeting campaigns to recapture the attention of subscribers and improve sales. Beyond browser cookies, Attentive's Identity AI tool gathers detailed subscriber data so you can create more targeted segments. Its Audience AI helps businesses target customers who are more likely to buy, removing those who aren’t likely to buy. Its Send Time AI helps to send messages at the best times customers are more likely to engage and the Brand Voice AI creates email copy adjusting to the business’ brand voice and tone.

Klaviyo

Klaviyo is a multichannel marketing tool. Businesses can engage customers across email, SMS, push notifications, and AI. In this sense, it’s ahead of Attentive which lacks the push notification and advanced AI features like Klaviyo.

Klaviyo’s SMS smart opt-in prevents distraction and allows customers to auto fill forms with a one-time code even without leaving the website. It has an SMS performance dashboard to track growth and delivery status via the deliverability hub. Businesses can use Klaviyo’s email templates and custom HTML/CSS to code new ones. The email templates are mobile-optimized. Its email and SMS “last touchpoint” attribution helps businesses know which message closed the sale. (While Attentive has revenue attribution, it isn’t “last touchpoint” attribution.)

With Klaviyo’s AI, marketing and customer support align. Klaviyo AI can answer pre-sales questions like tracking orders, and if customers need more support, they can web chat a live agent (new feature on Klaviyo). To reach a specific segment of customers, tell Klaviyo AI what you want and it will create a segment and generate email content in seconds, eliminating the time to manually create the segment and write content from scratch. Klaviyo’s SMS AI lets you create an SMS campaign and generate smart replies to customers making it faster to respond to customers.

N:B. In case customers want to enjoy the best of both worlds, Attentive and Klaviyo integrate together. This integration helps Attentive’s customers leverage Klaviyo’s email capabilities while Klaviyo’s customers can leverage Attentive’s SMS capabilities.

Mobile Text Alerts

For SMS marketing, Mobile Text Alerts offers cool AI features to enhance business texting. It has SmartSMS Suggest to suggest SMS content which cuts out the hassle of creating content from scratch, SmartSMS Shorterner to shorten messages to reduce cost, and SmartSMS Image Generator. Businesses can set-up an AI SMS Chatbot to respond to customer queries 24/7, which adds an extra $5/month to set it up.

Another amazing and budget-friendly benefit of MTA which Klaviyo and Attentive lack is the SMS credit rollover which allows you to rollover unused SMS credit to the next month.

You’re also able to send messages via text and basic email, all you need to do is switch on the “send to email” toggle.

2. Analytics & Reporting

Attentive

Attentive has a great analytics and reporting feature which lets you track your customer behavior throughout their customer journey, monitor the results of your marketing campaigns in real time and receive customizable reports in minutes to spare you the time of sorting out the reports manually. With Attentive, you can monitor attribution on each marketing program to know which brings in the most revenue.

Klaviyo

Klaviyo has more advanced analytics and reporting features like pre-built dashboards to monitor audience performance and growth—you decide what conversion metrics to track. Its “last touchpoint” attribution gives you granular detail by helping you discover which particular message closed the sale, unlike Attentive which shows a general attribution to the marketing program that racked in more revenue.

For customers yet to sign up, you can track their journey and when they sign up, their full history shows up. Easily identify “at risk of churn” customers through the recency, frequency, and monetary model and target them with highly personalized emails. Leverage historical data (without date restrictions) and compare with real time behaviors to understand business trends and make smart marketing decisions.

Mobile Text Alerts

Mobile Text Alerts has SMS-focused analytics like link tracking to view what customers are clicking, and different reports (such as the Subscriber Report, Sent Report, an Opt-Out Report) to help you know how many people unsubscribe and what they’re unsubscribing to. To drive growth, MTA’s pre-built report lets you check metrics like message success, and click through rates. There's also a campaign report that lets you track metrics across entire campaigns (including conversion rates).

All these reports help you to make informed decisions for a better SMS marketing strategy.

3. Automation

Attentive

Just as it lets you sign-up on SMS and email channels simultaneously, Attentive lets you build simultaneous customer journeys across SMS and email, send personalized messages and smart replies to customers.

Klaviyo

Based on Klaviyo’s advanced workflows, you can set up and automate trigger-based SMS and email workflows to help you respond faster to customers while delivering personalized experiences across the customer journey.

Mobile Text Alerts

With Mobile Text Alerts, you can set up drip campaigns to send and automate series of messages to different customer segments. Recurring messages can be automated to avoid having to draft the same content every single time. Mobile Text Alerts’s Smart Replies allows you to send automated replies to your audience’s most frequently asked questions.

Its latest feature, workflow builder, helps businesses setup flows that are triggered by different events. This drives engagement and conversion.

Some events that can trigger a workflow on MTA are:

  • When a subscriber opts in: If a subscriber opts in via one of the opt in methods designated to a workflow, they are automatically added to that workflow.
  • When a subscriber joins a group: When you select certain groups, any subscriber who is added to that group is added to the workflow.
  • When a subscriber sends you a message: If you assign certain words as a trigger, when a customer sends a message with those words, they are added to that particular workflow.

This article gives a detailed walkthrough of the workflow builder.

The workflow builder also has conditions and time delays to help a subscriber go through a particular action before progressing in the workflow, or before a followup message is sent. For example, after a message, you can include a time delay of minutes, hours or days.

4. Integrations

Attentive

Connect your favorite apps to Attentive through its 100+ integrations and an API to build one tailored to your needs.

Klaviyo

Klaviyo has 350+ integrations, surpassing Attentive’s 100+ and an API to build from scratch.

Mobile Text Alerts

Mobile Text Alert allows you to connect your favorite apps like Salesforce, Shopify, and Hubspot through Zapier integrations. There’s also a unique Zoom webinar and GoTo webinar integration (most valued by MTA customers). Plus, there’s an SMS API that you can use to set up whatever custom integrations you’d like to create.

5. Opt in methods

  • Attentive

Customers can opt in to email and SMS simultaneously through Onbrand’s 2-in-1 sign-up and Attentive’s 2-tap technology.

Klaviyo

Klaviyo has a double and single opt-in for both SMS and email. The double opt-in ensures customers confirm their email before becoming subscribers to a particular list while the single opt-in allows customers to subscribe without a confirmation. You can also subscript a profile through third-party integrations, API and CSV import.

Mobile Text Alerts

Mobile Text Alerts has 6 opt-in methods. Customers can opt in by scanning a QR Code, importing a spreadsheet, through the web sign up page, by texting to join, and through integrations like Zoom, Zapier, and API-built customizations.

6. Segmentation

Segmentation is powerful in that it helps you deliver the right message to the right customer showing that you care about their needs. All 3 platforms help you build the right customer relationships.

Attentive

Attentive helps you segment audiences using engagement data so you deliver the right content to the right customer.

Klaviyo

Klaviyo’s Segment AI is robust. It uses customer data to segment and personalize messages to customers, engaging and converting them. To target specific customers, you can ask Klaviyo AI and it creates a segment for you. Klaviyo’s Segment AI helps you segment and target customers based on their perceived lifetime value, that is, by churn risk and order date, and by any criteria that fits your marketing campaign.

Klaviyo lets you create look-alike audiences and connect them to your advertising platform so you can recommend products to them.

Mobile Text Alerts

Mobile Text Alerts segments customers into groups for effective personalization and product recommendation. When customers opt-in through the different opt-in methods on Mobile Text Alerts, they are automatically grouped into segments and MTA can then automate and schedule messages to its customers. Subscribers can also be grouped automatically based on data points in their subscriber profile.

7. Pricing

Attentive

Attentive doesn’t have a public pricing plan. Businesses interested in their solution have to contact them to find out what costs will be. This places a barrier on the ability for prospects to make up their minds quickly.

Klaviyo

Klaviyo has a limited free forever plan for customers who want to experience the platform. However, this plan doesn’t support more than 250 SMS and 500 emails). To get more, there’s a plan for $45.

Recommendation:

  • If you want an easy-to-use platform to engage customers across email and SMS with the ability to track your customer data, engagement, and marketing campaign attribution, go for Attentive.
  • Use Klaviyo if you’re looking for a robust email + SMS platform to build more advanced workflows, and segments, get granular details like last touchpoint attribution, but ensure you dedicate enough time to learn some product walkthroughs.
  • Most businesses have figured out their email strategy but the power of SMS marketing is still underused. Although Mobile Text Alerts doesn’t have other channels, its dependable message delivery, white glove onboarding, and accessible customer support (no bots!) make it a must-have for SMS marketers or businesses that want to monitor the success of their campaigns, build a more personalized journey for customers, and improve their SMS strategy.

What Verified Users on G2 Say about Attentive, Klaviyo and Mobile Text Alerts

As part of my analysis, I dug into reviews of verified users of all three products and found some interesting information on G2, a trusted product review site. These reviews are based on criteria like ease of use and customer support, essential elements to help customers achieve their “aha!” moment with the product.

1. Attentive

There are 517 Attentive reviews on G2 and according to these reviews, some of the users praised Attentive for helping them grow their user base through its AI powered tools and mobile friendly interface. What stands out for Attentive’s users is their customer support. However, the downside is that it can get expensive when you use more MMS features such as videos, audios, and images.

2. Klaviyo

Klaviyo has 1,069 reviews on G2. Klaviyo’s users love its powerful automation and segmentation feature. However, some customers say it’s pricey and lacks great customer support.

3. Mobile Text Alerts

Mobile Text Alerts has 69 reviews on G2 and most of the reviews were about its ease of use and user friendly website. Several reviewers also were happy with the customer support they received.

While Klaviyo is a robust platform with many capabilities and product walk-throughs, new users need more time to understand some of its workflows.

Going by user reviews of poor customer support, a slack in the vital area of support stalls customer satisfaction.

Attentive and Mobile Text Alerts win on ease of use, outstanding customer support and account manager experience.
