In today’s modern world, phones are everywhere.

Whereas 10 years ago only a fraction of the population was on board with mobile communication, these days everyone has a smartphone, including older generations who were first confounded by these devices.

Because we are all attached to our phones, we are more apt to pay attention to things that happen on them.

As a result, advertisers rely more and more on SMS marketing as a way to reach new audiences.

What this means is that you can target your ads more effectively, and generate a better return on investment overall.

Today we’ll take a look at mobile marketing and how it can impact your business, as well as provide you with a list of templates that you can use to make the most out of your next text message marketing campaign.

Now some may think all “Humbug” on the thought of leveraging text messages into your marketing strategy, we believe that the “proof is in the pudding.”

So before we show you some juicy templates you can plug and play for your campaign or while you are on our free trial, we want to show you some impressive case studies to get your endorphins running!

SMS Marketing: Top Three Case Studies

Before we take a look at some templates that you can use, we should first see how texting has affected some real-world companies.

     Tao Nightclub

This social spot in Las Vegas has an upscale, swanky vibe that is attractive to young, hip people.

Recently, the club wanted to promote an event, but owners  wanted to make sure that the invites were exclusive, rather than broadcasting it to anyone who would listen.

At the time, they had about 2000 mobile subscribers, so they drafted an invite-only text that was available to them exclusively.

As a result, the club had about 220 more attendees for the event or a redemption rate of 11 percent.

That generated an additional $1,770 in admission fees, plus another $4,000+ in drinks.

Overall, as a direct effect of the text marketing, the club made an extra $6000.

As an alternative to subscription sites like Netflix, Redbox has a significant market share in the home video business.

With 33,000 kiosks across the country, this company already has a wide reach.

Recently, Redbox offered a 10-day deal wherein customers could receive discounts on their next rental.

Even though the deal lasted just over a week, the response was overwhelming.

Over 1.5 million texts were sent and received over that time, making it one of the most successful marketing campaigns ever.

More than 400,000 customers participated, which is more than what the company was expecting.

Part of the reason for its success was that the texts went out with other promotional materials, and it was a limited-time offer, which spurred people to take action immediately.

     Texas Roadhouse

As a chain with over 400 restaurants, Texas Roadhouse already has a sizeable chunk of the market.

However, recently the barbecue chain decided to go mobile and offered a free appetizer if people signed up for its mobile list.

This tactic is extremely popular, and the restaurant had a 17 percent redemption rate.

As we all know, a free appetizer is not enough to sate anyone’s appetite, so that means there were a lot of additional sales to go with those deals.

This made the chain very happy in the end.

Amazingly enough, this was done at only 20 of their restaurants, making the success rate even higher.

Now onto the Juicy SMS Plug & Play Messaging Templates….

Text Message Marketing Templates

As you can see, marketing to your audience via text message can have some pretty impressive results.

However, texting can do so much more for your business than promote it, which is why we are offering a variety of templates, including those that can be used to notify your customers, remind them, or allow them to enter an exclusive contest.

Ultimately, the sky’s the limit when it comes to mobile marketing. Whatever you can think of can work if you do it properly.

Also, Avenue increased its subscription rates by 30 percent each month of the campaign.

Talk about a winner.

      3.) Carl’s Jr.

Carl’s Jr. recently sent out a text message notifying customers of a deal on a burger combo.

The chain got an average of 19 percent redemption rate, which helped generate $14 for every $1 they spent on the advertising campaign.

     4.) PETA2

PETA2 is an organization dedicated to ending animal cruelty.

Recently, the nonprofit created a text-message opt-in that encouraged mobile users to help stop animal testing for cigarettes.

    5.) National Wholesale Liquidators

The company reached that point by offering a text-only deal of $5 off any $25 purchase or more.

National Wholesale Liquidators found that mobile users who redeemed the coupon wound up spending 80 percent more than regular customers.

     6.) Dunkin Donuts

Dunkin Donuts is a national doughnut chain, but recently all Boston area stores participated in a text message campaign that encouraged customers to opt-in through their phones.

     3.) Pizza Hut

Geofencing is the practice of a company that sends a notification to a customer when the person is within a certain radius of a store.

This campaign aimed to get repeat business.

Over the course of a few months, they got over 5,000 signups.

Incredibly, the message generated a 680 percent ROI for the company, which helped make the event a huge success.

     2.) Kiehl’s

Kiehl’s is a cosmetic company based in the US.

For its latest marketing campaign, the business asked customers to sign up for location-based coupons through email or text message.

During the first six months, the company found that 73 percent of those that had signed up made a purchase, and more than half of those that did used text as a means of subscribing.

     3.) Chuck-E-Cheese

Chuck-E-Cheese, the family-oriented restaurant chain, is hopping on the mobile bandwagon.

In fact, about 5 percent of all new email addresses obtained by the pizza chain came through a text-message option.

In addition to generating new subscribers, those that opt-in through text are 10 to 20 percent more likely to open offers from the restaurant, compared to those who went through other methods, such as email.

These mobile users also click on coupons about 10 percent more often as well.

4.) Ford Motor Company

To generate more interest in the new Taurus and Escape models, Ford Motor Company invited prospective customers to text the company to find out more information about the cars.

When customers would do so, they would be asked to enter their location as well as which car they were most interested in.

Then prospective buyers would get a follow-up call from a local dealership.

Amazingly, this resulted in a 14 percent conversion rate.

     5.) Julep

Julep is an online cosmetic store.

Recently, the company launched a campaign to drive more sales, so it offered a discount to all mobile users that signed up for their contact list via text.

     6.) Papa John’s

In the UK, a Papa John’s franchise ran a three-week texting campaign where it offered pizzas for 6.99 carry out or 8.99 delivery.

The store drew from over 8,100 customers that had opted in previously.

Over that period, the store saw a 33 percent increase in sales.

SMS Marketing For Polls

As we move into the future, uncertainty plagues almost everything in our ordinary lives.

While previous generations could marvel at the wonders of technology and see the upcoming years with unbridled optimism, lately it seems like we have nothing but murky projections. This is starkly evident in schools.

It’s a sad reality that these pillars of education are not as safe as they once were, but that is the nature of the world in which we live.

Before we continue, we want you to know that our purpose here is to educate you so that you can be better prepared for any situation that arises.  It’s easy to see headlines like this and be gripped with fear, but knowledge is our best defense in combatting it. Hopefully, by the end of this article, you will be much more optimistic.

Despite the fact that we are looking at harrowing modern times, let’s look at this article as a proactive stance on a harrowing issue.

In fact, with such attention paid to these kinds of situations, schools can become safer and more secure.

Let’s see how schools manage to do that.

SMS and Emergency Notifications

As more kids get cell phones and mobile devices from their parents, it’s never been easier to stay in contact with your child at all hours of the day. Schools are tapping into this level of connectivity by creating emergency notification systems that can alert all students and parents of any situation that happens.

By using SMS messages, it saves a lot of time.

Best of all, messages could alert everyone connected to the school when there is a problem without alerting anyone else (if covertness was necessary). Using various templates, the schools can notify everyone on their phone list within seconds, making sure that everyone is in the loop.

Mobile Text Alerts has worked with countless schools to help set up alerts if the event of any emergency.

The Sleeve

In modern day schools, classrooms are forbidden from having locks on the inside. The reason for that is to enable students and teachers to evacuate quickly and without impedance. Unfortunately, that also means that anyone could potentially get in without any problems unless the teacher exposes him or herself to lock the door from the outside.

There is a new solution called “The Sleeve.”

It was invented by Daniel Nietzel, who is a teacher in Muscatine, Iowa.

He along with several other teachers and faculty members at the school developed The Sleeve, and it seems to be working perfectly.

The Sleeve is a metal piece that fits over the hinge of the door. By placing it on there, the door is effectively locked as the hinge won’t expand.  Additionally, because the Sleeve is made of 12-gauge carbon steel, there is no chance of it breaking.

Best of all, it can be installed in seconds and it won’t budge.

It costs $65 and schools around the country have invested in it.

Updated Drills

While new inventions are all well and good, it is good not to forget to be prepared.

With recent high-profile shootings like Sandy Hook on everyone’s mind, schools are updating their drills and evacuation procedures. Adding on to the standard fire drill, some districts are rehearsing “active shooter drills” with varying degrees of success.

According to research, having multiple drills and evacuation plans on hand mean that the failure rate drops significantly.

Security Cameras

Another old-fashioned solution to a modern-day problem is to have better surveillance camera systems in place.

Most school districts already have a full-time security staff on site, so having better cameras means that they can stay on top of situations as they arise, rather than being caught off guard. Recently, many schools have invested money into upgrading old cameras and making them much more useful, both in placement and quality of the images. By doing this, they can spot a potential problem and address it before it gets out of hand.

Best of all, it works for all kinds of situations- from school fights to a fire or a medical emergency.

Restricted Access

If you’ve ever tried to go to a school in the last couple of years, odds are that you were unable to get past the front door.

To help protect the kids as much as possible, schools are making it harder for strangers to get inside. In many cases, you have to wait for a security guard to escort you and you need proper identification before you can step foot into the hallways. In more extreme cases, schools will not allow anyone who hasn’t already been cleared (such as parents or guardians) enter the school.

That means you will have to wait outside as staffers handle whatever business you were there for, such as dropping off a package or picking up a student.

Again, this solution has practical application as it helps prevent school shooters or abductors from getting on site.

As we saw with the Sleeve above, teachers can be quite innovative when personal safety is on the line.

Another educator named Celisa Edwards developed a simple solution to keep doors closed in the event of a terror attack or intruder. While it does require some extra planning, her system is more cost-effective and just as efficient.

It’s called the Portable Affordable Lockdown System (PALS), and it is a metal wire with two loops. You wrap the wire over the door handle and then place the other end over a hook that has been installed into the wall. Within seconds, the door is completely unable to open from the outside.

Every day, schools are working towards making themselves safer for children.

Even though we are dealing with unimaginably daunting problems, the ingenuity of our spirit and the resilience of our resolve means that we will always find solutions.

Are text alerts a good idea for your organization? What if people get annoyed by your messages messages? What if it’s too expensive? Too intrusive?

I’m going to explain why sending text messages is a wonderful way to connect with your group and why you should start sending text alerts right now!

  1. Text alerts are affordable

Texting can actually be quite inexpensive! You don’t need to break your bank to send alerts for your organization. Plans start as low as $19/month, so even if your organization is a non-profit or a small business on a limited budget you can take advantage of text alert services.

  1. Text alerts are opt-in-based

In order to legally be able to receive text alerts, subscribers need to give their consent. They can do this by texting in your keyword to opt in, by going to your web sign-up page, or by signing some kind of consent form. Giving their consent means that they want to receive messages from you!

This means that they won’t find your texts annoying or intrusive. They have willingly subscribed to your alerts. As long as you pay attention to the wants and needs of your audience and exercise wisdom when sending messages, they’ll look forward to hearing from you!

  1. Text alerts are not ignored

Unlike with emails or social media posts, which people often ignore without reading, people almost always read their text messages. It is a highly rare occurrence for a text message to go unread!

This means that when you send a text alert your subscribers are much more likely to pay attention to your message.

  1. Text alerts create a record for easy reference

With other forms of communication it’s easy for messages to get lost or forgotten. But with text alerts, people have your message conveniently accessible on their phones.

Your subscribers will appreciate having information on their phones for handy access.  Another perk is they can easily add any information to their phone’s reminder or calendar system.

These are just a few simple reasons why sending text alerts is a great idea for whatever organization you’re a part of! Texting is the law of the land these days—it’s easily overtaken email, phone calls, and social media as many people’s primary means of communication.

Why not meet people where they are? Start sending text alerts right now.

use texting for market research surveys

Wouldn’t it be great if your customers could just spell out exactly what they want and need from your company?

Instead of spending all your time guessing what to offer next, you’d have key insights to help your customers get the most out of your products and services.

While this may seem like a fantasy, there’s one surefire way you can get closer to making it a reality for your business: sending out surveys.

Using surveys gives you the chance to get inside your customer’s head.

You come up with questions you’d like answered and you’ll have replies written in your own customer’s voice; no more guessing required.

Now, before you say anything, I know what you’re thinking.

I’ve tried surveying my customers before and it didn’t work well. Almost no one responded to my survey and those who did only gave vague answers that were not at all helpful.

I get it.

Surveys aren’t easy.

As you may have experienced, many customers just aren’t motivated enough to complete them, even if you throw in an enticing offer.

So what can you do?

Update your approach.

As you’ll soon seen, using an SMS service is a better way to conduct your market research.

To show you why it’s really worth your time, I’ll be sharing my top four reasons an SMS service beats out all other surveying methods.

Just because you’ve been unsuccessful with surveys in the past, doesn’t mean that still has to be the case. Follow our pro pointers and you won’t repeat any mistakes.

So let’s jump right into why using an SMS service for market research surveys works so well.

People Prefer Text Messages, Including Your Customers

This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, but 97% of Americans send at least one text message each day.

Combined, that means 6 billion texts are sent each day in the US alone.

According to one report in Forbes, customers actually prefer receiving text messages over other forms of communication from businesses.

  • 70% mentioned that texts were great for getting their attention
  • 64% of customers think brands should communicate via text
  • 76% admit that they would read a text message sooner than an email

As you can see, it pays to send your customers your market research surveys via text.

Still not convinced? This next section may give you more to think about.

Customers Are More Likely to Open And Respond to Your Texts

We’ve touched on this point a few times on our blog already, but it’s worth repeating. Text messages consistently have higher open and engagement rates than all other forms of communication.

Currently, the open rates for SMS messages average 98-99%. Compare that to email, which if you’re lucky and savvy, still only clocks in around 20%.

Besides open rates, the response rates are much higher as well. Text messages come in with a whopping 45% while email rocks a measly 6%.

Both of these stats make sense, since 90% of texts are read within three minutes.

Text messages are so engaging because they’re fast and easy for all parties involved.

Texts Are Fast & Easy to Use

If over 80% of adults are texting daily, it’s safe to say that most of us can navigate our way around them. After all, they’re pretty simple and straightforward.

These two qualities make text messages an ideal option for businesses to use for customer surveys.

You can set up your survey within a matter of minutes and your respondents will be able to reply just as quickly.

Plus, when you use an SMS service to help you do this, your customers’ responses are then automatically tallied so you can analyze all your results in real-time.

This method provides a simple way to quickly collect your audience’s opinions on any relevant topic to your business.

And if you’re looking to boost your response rates, text message reminders will be just what you need.

Boost Your Response Rates

Scientists at the Pew Research Center discovered that you can use texts to remind your customers to take your online survey without annoying them.

And when you nudge them like this, you’ll see a positive boost in your response time.

Stats show that respondents who received both an email and text notification were 13% more likely to complete a survey than those respondents who only received an email about it.

Furthermore, 50% of the email and text recipients completed the survey within one day of receiving the notification, as opposed to only 37% of email-only recipients.

Same-day response is fantastic, which makes SMS messages one of the best ways to capture instant feedback from your customers.Researchers poked further and realized that 15% of the email and text recipients actually completed the survey within 30 minutes of receiving the text notification whereas only 6% of email-only recipients did so in that time. This is not a coincidence, folks!

People are more likely to respond – and respond faster to a text message than an email.

Now that you have a better idea of why you should use text messages to conduct your market research, you’re ready to learn a few basic techniques for sending your surveys with success.

Use an SMS Service for Your Market Research Surveys

You may be hesitant about sending your standard customer survey via SMS if you’ve never done so before. But you shouldn’t be.

Here’s how simple it is to send your survey in the form of a text:

  • Send one question and wait for a response
  • Once a response comes in, send 1 or 2 more questions in the same way to complete your survey

Yes, it’s that easy.

But, to get a double-digit response rate, you’ll need to keep the following best practices in mind:

Start Out Simple

To get your subscribers to take action, start out with an easy first question, such as:

“Do you have a second to give us your feedback? Reply “yes” or “no”.”

By doing this, you’ll capture your subscriber’s attention and pique their interest, both of which will help increase your chances of them actually completing the survey.

Your survey questions should be 1-word answers at first (reply with “yes” or “no”, or even “y” or “n”) and simple enough to reply back quickly.

From there, you can ask 1 or 2 more questions like this.

After the 2nd or 3rd question, you can ask for more specific feedback.

Let Your Subscribers Speak Their Mind

When a subscriber makes it past your 2nd and 3rd questions, they’re more invested and involved in your survey. It’s at this point that they’re also more likely to give you the specific feedback you’re looking for.

To do this, you have to be the one to initiate the chat.

Fortunately, that’s easier to do than you may think.

Instead of sending a survey question with a set of answers to choose from, leave the response as an open-ended comment and give your subscribers an unlimited character count so they can truly speak their mind.

By opening the doors of communication, you’ll get the key insights you need to make decisions with your customers in mind.

Once you have your survey set up in this format, you’re ready to launch it.

From here, run a test text before it goes live to your audience to make sure everything works out.

If it passes inspection, send your survey and give it some time for the responses to come in.

After a few days you should also send your subscribers a gentle nudge in the form of a reminder text if they haven’t completed your survey yet.

Don’t Forget to Set Up a Reminder

As you set up your survey, it’s a good idea to also create a reminder that’s triggered to subscribers who don’t respond to your survey.

This should start out with a slightly different version of your first text.

So you could say:

“We noticed you haven’t taken our survey yet. Do you have a second now to complete it? We’d love to hear from you!”

This should be your last text message about your survey since you don’t want to annoy your subscribers.

Repeat this process every quarter or so and you’ll start to generate feedback you can really run with. So if you’re ready to get started with an SMS service, check out this page now.

We’ve just finished up another New Year – another year gone by, another opportunity to evaluate our goals and our struggles.

Another time to start fresh.

We all have different expectations and different things we want out of 2017. Will it be a time of change, of improvement, of adjustment, of evaluation?

Here are 11 New Year quotes to consider this January.

  • “And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.” –Rainer Maria Rilke
  • “I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.” –Neil Gaiman
  • “Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” –Oprah Winfrey
  • “Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, ‘It will be happier.’” –Alfred, Lord Tennyson
  • “The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.” –Melody Beattie
  • “Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.” –Benjamin Franklin
  • “Resolution One: I will live for God. Resolution Two: If no one else does, I still will.” –Jonathan Edwards
  • “The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.” –Gilbert K. Chesterton
  • “New Year’s Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to take up more of my time.” –James Agate
  • “New Year’s Day is every man’s birthday.” –Charles Lamb
  • “Character is the ability to carry out a good resolution long after the excitement of the moment has passed.” –Cavett Robert

Continuing from a previous blog post, after a long hiatus, here are Scripture verses from days 31-45 on the reading plan.  You can send out these verses as daily words of encouragement, or you can use them to help encourage your group to read the Bible in a year.

Day 31: “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge” -Psalm 18:2

Day 32: “The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the dwelling of the righteous.” -Proverbs 3:33

Day 33: “For many are called, but few are chosen.” -Matthew 22:14

Day 34: “I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin?” -Job 31:1

Day 35: “As for God, His way is blameless; the word of the Lord is tried; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.” -Psalm 18:30

Day 36: “Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.” -Proverbs 4:5

Day 37: “Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.” -Matthew 24:42

Day 38: “I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.” -Job 42:2

Day 39: “But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live.” -Exodus 1:17

Day 40: “Do not enter the path of the wicked and do not proceed in the way of evil men.” -Proverbs 4:14

Day 41: “Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” -Matthew 26:53

Day 42: “May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob set you securely on high!” -Psalm 20:1

Day 43: “Then all the sons of Israel did so; they did just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron.” -Exodus 12:50

Day 44: “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.” -Matthew 27:50

To say that chronic conditions are difficult to go through

would be the understatement of the century.

But there is hope! In this day and age, treatments have improved and technology has advanced. Though life will certainly be more difficult, it will not be impossible. We have modern conveniences and medicines that people didn’t have even a decade ago—and advancements are being made everyday!

So one might ask- Can text messaging help?

The Study

One study investigated the effectiveness of texting reminders in order to get HIV-Positive youth to stick to their HIV medication. The results were interesting!

The study compared a control group who received no texting reminders to a group of people who received reminders both before and after their scheduled times to take medication. The messages also invited responses from participants and held a personalized and motivational tone.

The Results and Conclusions

The results? The article explains, “The study found a significantly greater proportion of intervention participants with medication adherence at or over 90 percent than the comparison group when evaluated at three months and six months after the start of the trial.

So what was the conclusion? The article quotes Robert Garofalo, the study’s lead author: “The text messaging intervention is a practical and inexpensive tool that can be implemented in primary care and HIV clinics across the country. … It is well-suited for supporting the treatment of conditions managed over extended periods of time.

How wonderful that a simple tool like texting reminders can help improve the health of those suffering from a devastating diagnosis. It’s so easy for those undergoing medical trials to become overwhelmed, or even just to forget to take their medication. But this is the power of texting—messages come to your personal phone and you can’t ignore them. They can provide a much-needed encouraging note to someone who might need it!
